Size & uses

What is the purpose of haramaki? What are its benefits?

The haramaki is an abdominal warmer: an elastic fabric band that covers you from the abdomen to the lower back and holds in your body's natural warmth without squeezing.

Almost all your vital organs are in this area (except the heart and lungs). Keeping it warm boosts circulation, helps them work better and gives you an instant feeling of well-being and security.

In everyday life it keeps you company when you have lower back pain, period discomfort, heavy digestion or a chill from changes in temperature. For us, it's like wearing a hug.

How do I know my size?

The haramaki can be worn over or under your clothes, and depending on the time of day and what you're doing, you may want it to feel looser or snugger.

We recommend going by your usual clothing size. If you wear two sizes, for example 38 and 40, choose the smaller one, which in our Size Guide corresponds to size 2 or size S.

Cotton and wool both give a little with wear. Cotton regains its firmness when washed; wool, when you let it rest. Remember that it isn't a compression garment but a kidney and abdomen warmer. It's not meant to squeeze, but to keep you company.

How do you put haramaki on?

The haramaki has no buttons or zips, but it adapts beautifully to your shape. It's best to step into it, feet first, taking care not to strain the side seams.

  • The narrower edge goes at the top, at the waist, about 4 or 5 cm above your belly button.
  • The wider edge (where the logo label is) goes at the bottom, keeping your abdomen warm and wrapping your lower back.

With the Extra-long Cotton model, which is 6 cm taller, the haramaki reaches just under your chest and a little below your hips.

In late pregnancy, it's much more comfortable to put it on over your head and slide it down until it covers your whole bump.

Remember that you can wear it under your clothes or on top, on show, to give your look a different touch.

How to care for your Happy Belly

Organic cotton garments
Composition: 95% cotton, 5% elastane. Applies to cotton haramakis, mittens, turbans, bags and t-shirts.

  • Machine wash at 30°C, gentle cycle, inside out. Best washed with other similar colours.
  • Bleach: do not use.
  • Iron: medium temperature, no steam.
  • Dry cleaning: not recommended.
  • Drying: lay flat to dry to keep its shape. Avoid the tumble dryer.

Merino wool garments

Composition: 93% Superior Extra Fine Merino Wool, 6% Polyamide, 1% Elastane. Applies to haramaki, mittens, hat and neck warmer from the Fuji and Knitting Warmth by Lluís Generó series.

  • Hand wash in cold water or use the wool cycle on your washing machine. Do not rub.
  • Bleach: do not use.
  • Iron: best not to iron. If needed, use the lowest temperature setting with no steam.
  • Dry cleaning: not recommended.
  • Drying: lay flat in the shade, do not wring.

Printed garments
Applies to the entire Simma Collection, t-shirts and tote bags. Printed pieces are cared for in the same way as cotton garments, with two important details:

  • Always wash inside out, without rubbing the printed area.
  • If ironing is needed, iron only on the inside, never directly over the print.
When is extra long haramaki recommended?

The extra-long haramaki adds 6 cm more height to the regular model. It is ideal to wear it as underwear in contact with the skin. You can check the height of the regular and extra-long haramaki in our size guide.

We recommend it if:

  • You are breastfeeding. When the shirt goes up, it covers you up to below the chest, and the cold does not sneak through the back.
  • You are tall, and you think a normal haramaki may fall short.
  • To sleep if you are cold and do not want your lower back to be exposed.
  • You like to wear leggings, and you prefer that the haramaki cover your buttocks a little below the hips.
Is haramaki only for women?

No, the haramaki is for anyone who wants to take care of themselves and connect with their body. It wraps and comforts everyone equally because, apart from the heart and lungs, the haramaki hugs the main vital organs, boosting circulation and giving a lovely feeling of comfort.

Here you'll find more information about what a haramaki is, its origin and its properties.

Do you have a special Haramaki model for pregnancy?

Yes, we have designed a special haramaki model for the months of pregnancy. In the words of Judit Cámara, acupuncturist and user “the haramaki is a great help during pregnancy to keep the baby warm and cozy and also during breastfeeding because when you lift your shirt to breastfeed, the haramaki protects you”.

To choose the special pregnancy haramaki model we recommend you consult the Sizing Guide as it is the only model that modifies its design and it is not the same in the front and in the back.

What is the difference between the cotton haramaki and the wool one?

Both keep your belly warm and cared for, but each has its strengths.

The organic cotton one (GOTS cert.) gives you a closer fit and you can wear it all year round —as an underlayer, doing yoga or light exercise, or just in your everyday life— and you can throw it in the washing machine without any fuss.

The extra-fine merino wool one (RWS cert.) is your option if you feel the cold easily or want maximum comfort directly against your skin. It keeps you warmer, naturally regulates your temperature, doesn't itch and is ultralight: it wraps you up without adding bulk. Although its thermoregulating properties make it adaptable to more seasons, we especially recommend it for autumn and winter. Just give it a little extra care when washing: by hand or on a delicate cold cycle.

Pure Merino or Fuji Series?

Both collections are made of extra-fine merino wool and are knitted in Igualada. Pure Merino is 100% wool, with no elastane, featuring a ribbed knit pattern in a solid color, with a ribbed waistband.
The Pure Haramaki is taller than the Fuji; you can check the measurements for both styles in our Size Guide.
The Fuji Haramaki combines each color with off-white in a design inspired by Mount Fuji. It is knitted in a 1x1 rib stitch with no side seams and comes as a set with a hat, mittens, and neck warmer.

What materials do you use?

In our collections, we use natural fabrics certified by GOTS for cotton and the RSW (Responsible Wool Standard) for wool. Both certifications guarantee not only that the materials are organically sourced but also that workers are treated with dignity.

We also look for certificates of environmental and social commitment on Life is a hug T-shirts and bags.

In the Sustainability section you can find out more about our commitment to reducing textile waste through our "Zero waste" project.

Sustainability and materials

What's the difference between organic and conventional cotton?

Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilisers, using much less water, and meeting environmental criteria throughout the chain. Conventional cotton, far more common in cheap clothing, can retain residues of those chemicals. The cotton fabric we use is also GOTS-certified, which also guarantees fair social conditions throughout the chain, and is free of harmful substances thanks to Oeko-Tex dyes.

In a garment you wear in direct contact with your body for hours, you'll notice that difference in origin on your skin.

What exactly guarantees that your cotton is certified?

That there's an independent guarantee of its origin and how it was produced. Many brands talk about "natural" or "sustainable" cotton with no seal behind it; we work with our fabric supplier's GOTS certificate (no. CB-GOTS-CUC-03-1010800), which verifies both organic growing and compliance with social and environmental criteria across the whole chain.

Why do you use virgin fibres instead of recycled ones?

Because both cotton and wool fibres are in contact with your skin for hours and need to last for years. In mechanical recycling, the fibre gets shorter and is usually blended with others to regain strength, which costs it softness, its ability to hold its shape, and, in the long run, lifespan. We apply circularity in other areas, like our stationery or compostable packaging, but the fabric itself is always virgin.

Are your dyes natural?

Our dyes aren't natural: they're synthetic, but certified to Oeko-Tex Standard 100. That's an independent guarantee that the garment doesn't contain harmful substances — heavy metals, formaldehyde, allergenic colourants, among others — above the safe limits set for garments worn in direct contact with skin. It's a demanding standard, but it isn't the same as a naturally-sourced dye, and it doesn't guarantee compatibility with specific sensitivities or health conditions. If yours specifically requires you to avoid synthetic dyes, we recommend checking with your doctor or dermatologist first.

Is your wool mulesing-free?

Yes. RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) certification guarantees animal welfare and prohibits practices such as mulesing, as well as ensuring responsible land management: an independent guarantee that the virgin wool we use in yarns carrying that certification comes from an animal-welfare-respecting source.

Are your products vegan?

It depends on each product's composition. Our organic cotton garments are plant-based, so yes, they're vegan. Our merino wool garments, on the other hand, come from sheep and aren't vegan, even though they carry RWS animal-welfare certification.

Do your garments shed microplastics when washed?

Very few, compared to synthetic garments or recycled blends. Our fabrics are mostly natural fibre (95% organic cotton, 93% extra-fine merino wool, or 100% merino wool outright), and natural fibres release almost no microplastics in the wash, unlike polyester or many recycled fabrics blended with synthetics. The small percentage of elastane or polyamide in some of our garments is the minimum needed for stretch and fit, without turning the garment into a significant source of plastic microfibres.

What happens to the garment at the end of its life? Is it biodegradable?

The natural fibres that make up most of our garments (organic cotton and merino wool) are biodegradable, unlike synthetic fabrics or many recycled blends, which persist in the environment. Some garments carry a small percentage of elastane or polyamide for stretch, so without question, the most sustainable thing you can do is make the garment's life as long as possible. That's exactly why we're so committed to the highest quality in both material and manufacture.

Custom haramaki

How much does a custom haramaki cost?

It depends on the model, size and colors you choose. When you send us your design, we assess it in the sewing workshop and within a few days we'll get back to you with a quote and delivery time.

Requesting a quote is free and doesn't commit you to anything.

How long does it take?

Each custom haramaki is made for you in our workshops in Catalonia, so the time depends on the model and the time of year. We'll tell you in the quote, before you decide.

Can I exchange or return it?

Because it's made to your measurements, once it has been made it can't be exchanged or returned. So if you have any doubts about the size or colors, write to us first with your measurements and we'll advise you.

How do I take my measurements?

Standing, relaxed and without pulling the tape measure tight:

  1. Waist measurement: the narrowest part of your torso, about 4 cm above your belly button. This is where the top edge of the haramaki sits.
  2. Hip measurement: the widest part, below your hip bones. This is where the bottom edge reaches.

You'll find more information in our Size Guide.

What is it made of?

The same fabric as our other cotton haramakis: 95% GOTS-certified organic cotton and 5% elastane, which gives it stretch and helps it keep its shape. Machine washable at 30 °C.

Can I combine colors?

Yes, with the reversible model you choose one color for each side. This applies to the regular, extra-long and children's reversible models. If you're looking for a combination you don't see in the chart, tell us in the comments.

Can I see the colors before deciding?

Yes. If you're nearby, you can visit our Studio by appointment: Carrer de Santa Madrona, 19, Vilanova i la Geltrú. Write to us on WhatsApp: +34 676296587 and we'll arrange it.

Can I design a wool haramaki?

For now, the haramakis we offer here are our organic cotton models. You can see our wool models in the merino collection.

Give a Haramaki

Can I give a happybelly as a gift from the website?

Of course! Remember to specify when you get to the personal details page of the shopping cart if the "billing address" (yours) is different from the "shipping address" (the address of the person you want to send the gift to).

This option also allows you to receive the package at your place of work or wherever you prefer.

If you also select the option "Gift wrap this item" we will do a special packaging. This option must be selected as many times as you want to send packaged gifts and has a small additional cost.

How do Gift Cards work?

The Gift Cards we offer work as follows:

  • Select the option with one of the 2 amounts you are interested in. This amount cannot be personalised.
  • Its value can be used as payment in our online shop. It has no expiry date and is not compatible with discounts from other promotions.
  • Once we receive the payment, you will receive an email with the exclusive code of this card that you can give to whoever you want.
  • This code is the one you will need on the payment screen to redeem the value of the gift card.

Other questions about the conditions of use of the Cards:

  • You can use a gift card more than once as long as there is a remaining balance on the card.
  • You cannot use a gift card to buy another gift card.
  • You can use a gift card to pay the corresponding shipping and taxes as gift cards are applied to the total of the final order, which includes shipping and taxes.
Do you have your own store?

At the moment we don't have our own physical shop, but you can see the points of sale that currently stock our products. They are shops 100% aligned with our values and, as luck would have it, all run by women.

Our studio in Vilanova i la Geltrú works as a showroom and order pickup point. Book an appointment by sending a message to +34 676 296 587.
We'll show you our full catalogue.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Methods of payment and shipping

What payment methods can I use in the store?

Our online store offers different payment methods depending on the country:

  • Bank transfer
  • Credit card
  • Paypal

With none of these payment methods we access your bank details and the connection is secure (SSL protocol). See Shopify for more information about how it works and its privacy policy.

If any problem arises during the transaction, we will receive a "payment not completed" notice and we will contact you so that you can try again or select another payment method.

If you support commission-free sustainable fashion and want to help the local economy, choose bank transfer as your payment method or visit one of the shops that stock our products 🙂

Where do you ship to?

We ship to the whole Spanish Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Andorra, European Union countries, Norway and the USA.

Will I have to pay import duties if I live in the United States (USA)?

No. If you order from the United States (USA), import duties and taxes are already included in the price you see on our website, in dollars.

The total you pay at checkout (products and shipping) is the final price: there is nothing to pay when your order arrives, neither to the carrier nor at customs. No surprises.

We ship from our workshop in Barcelona to any address in the United States of America (US). In your order confirmation email you will find the carrier's link to track your parcel.

Can I know how my order is progressing?

Your order confirmation email includes a link from the shipping company that will keep you informed of your order's status step by step.
If you haven't received your haramaki within the expected time, please contact us with your order number and purchase date and we'll try to find out the status of your shipment.

What happens if I made a mistake with the shipping address?

If you give an incorrect or incomplete address when placing your order, the carrier will return the parcel to us. In that case, you will need to pay the cost of reshipping once we have confirmed the correct address with you.

Because the carrier calculates shipping rates at the time of delivery, we may be able to redirect the parcel to the new address without it being returned to us. But in that case too, it is charged again as a new shipment, so you will need to pay for it.

What shipping options do I have?

The shipment consists of door-to-door delivery , that is, the orders go directly from our workshop to the address that you have provided us.

  • If you need your order to be delivered to another destination you can indicate this when you place your order.
  • If you live in the province of Barcelona and would prefer to pick it up in person, please contact us to arrange an appointment at our studio: Carrer de Santa Madrona, 19, Vilanova i la Geltrú. Pick-up hours: Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
How long will it take for my haramaki to arrive?

The average delivery time for standard shipping to mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands is 3 to 5 business days (excluding weekends and holidays).

For the rest of Europe, the average delivery time is 5 to 10 days.

For the United States, delivery takes between 12 and 18 days.

What if I was not there during the delivery of my order?

Our recommendation is that you use an address where you know someone is usually there during working hours (no delivery on weekends).

Spain and European Union:
A new delivery attempt will be made on the following days. If delivery is not possible, your package will be available for the next 15 days at the nearest pick-up office.

In the event that there is an error in the shipping information provided and delivery cannot be made, we will receive a notice. We will contact you to correct the error and activate delivery again. In this case, you must first pay the cost of making a new shipment.

Do you want to be a brand ambassador?

If you are a health, fashion or social media professional and you like our products, now you can collaborate with us through the Affiliate Program . Take a look!

What is an Affiliate Program?

It's a way for you, as a health, fashion or social media professional, to collaborate by recommending our products and benefit financially from it. There's no need to hold stock or run paid campaigns — we just want your expert voice to help people discover us.

We've seen that nearly 64% of the people who buy our haramakis recommend and/or gift them to friends and family. Following this word-of-mouth pattern, we believe there's no better purchase than one recommended by someone who cares about you. That's where you come in — as an affiliate, or "brand ambassador," collaborating with Happy Belly.

How can I bring value to Happy Belly?

Your patients, students or social media followers are a solid community that values your experience and judgment.

Our idea in having you join is that you get to know our products and share your own impressions with them, adding your own arguments to our value proposition. Whether it's through your personal experience wearing the haramaki or your professional knowledge, we want your perspective.

How do I benefit as an affiliate?

With a personalized code, you'll be able to offer your patients, students or followers a discount in our online store, and you'll earn a commission on every sale made with your code.

On top of that:

  • If you're the affiliate with the most sales of the season, we'll feature you in a blog interview and a newsletter mention.
  • Each season you can choose your own garment at a special discount with free shipping, to wear and share authentically.
  • You'll gain visibility through our channels and promotional campaigns.
  • You'll be able to take part in Happy Belly workshops and in-person events, to get to know us better and grow your own community.
  • You'll have access to your own dashboard to track your sales and progress in real time.
  • We'll provide photos, logo and brand materials to make sharing with your community easier.

We'll walk you through all the details — commission, discount, thresholds — in your personal interview.

How do I join the Affiliate Program?

It's as simple as filling out the form at this link. Tell us who you are and why you think our products could fit your business.

Once we've reviewed your profile, we'll reach out to arrange an interview, in person or by video call. We believe in personal chemistry and love at first sight, so this step is essential to take part in the program.

Because every recommendation you make is, as we like to say, a way of weaving the network.
